Kids + Family Sessions
For every type of session be sure to wear something that you feel great in!
Jeans, scarves, textures and layers in subtle or brilliant colours are great. For kids bring accessories such as hats, textured sweaters or tutus. For babies up to a year a soft blanket, a favourite hat and outfit, or just bare skin and a cute diaper cover are great.
I have a selection of simple props at the studio that we might also use for your session. If you can’t decide what between outfits bring along a couple of changes of clothes and we can decide at the time of the session.
Allow at least one hour for groups of 6 or more to help me make sure I get the best natural smiles or expressions from everyone. I’ll make sure to also take photos of individuals, just the kids, and some candid, fun shots. For groups casual or dressy, similar tones are always best but there’s no need to match.
- Decide how dressy or casual you want your photos to be. For some sessions we can do two looks so you can do both.
- Pick a color scheme with two or three colors. Pick a basic colour and an accent colour that each family grouping can incorporate into their choice of outfits.
- You can add layers, textures, and accessories for interest.
- Make sure your family unit looks coordinated alone since we’ll be doing some individual family pictures too.
- Make sure you communicate your choices clearly with the rest of the group so there will be no surprises on the day of the session!

HOW TO PREPARE for your head shots. For the modern entrepreneur + creatives.
A head shot helps you communicate what you do so keep that in mind when selecting your clothes for the session. Your choice for an actor’s heads hot will be different than for corporate head shots.
Business and creative head shots are everywhere – linked-in, personal and professional websites, tumblr, facebook, print magazines. Professional head shots will help you give your best first impression to connect you with the clients you want to attract.
For your Session plan to wear comfortable clothes that fit you well. Bright or mid-tone colours that are darker than your skin tone are your best choice to bring attention to your face. In general you will want to avoid logos, solid white or tops in flesh tones as they will blend your skin into your clothes. Choose a flattering neckline that will draw attention to your face. Add detail with scarves, a jacket to wear over your top, jewelry, etc. Longer sleeves can also more flattering than shorter sleeves especially if you are sensitive about your arms. Feel free to bring a couple of outfits if you are unsure what to wear. Any clothes you choose should be well ironed and free of “pilling” which will show in your final photos.
Most important, wear something that makes you feel good! You want to be relaxed and comfortable during your session. Wearing something that makes you feel your best will help you relax and enjoy the whole experience!
The Newborn Session
This is the best time to capture that sleepy baby look, or baby curled up in your arms, or swaddled in a soft blanket! Feel free to bring a special blanket or hat/headband or something that has special meaning to you to personalize your baby’s session. For both yourself and baby I prefer a neutral palette with soft colours or skin to skin with you holding baby. Try to avoid bright white and also busy patterns and logos. Textures can photograph beautifully so keep that in mind as well. A dark long sleeved fitted shirt is great for daddy and baby photos and a simple tube top or tank top is great for photos of you with baby (see maternity session info). Bring a 2 or 3 different outfits that you want to wear for your photos. Some ideas; black or light coloured tube tops or tank tops look great with jeans or black yoga pants. You might also want to bring a pretty dress or sweater, a maxi dress and some wraps and t-shirts, and accessories like boots or nice shoes, scarves, and jewelry. I also have some simple cloth wraps as a back up. —

Some ideas; dark and light tube tops or tank tops look great with jeans (no belly band is best) or dark yoga pants or shorts. You might also want to bring a pretty dress or sweater, and some wraps or t-shirts, and accessories like boots or nice shoes, scarves, and jewelry. I also have some simple cloth wraps you are welcome to use in the studio. It’s a good idea to wear loose clothing to the studio to avoid lines on your belly. Maternity sessions can be in studio, outdoors or a combination of both. Let me know what you prefer when you book.
